Al Faer, founder and president of The Jared
Company established in 1981 as a magazine
publishing consulting firm has provided consulting
services to a diverse group of publishers of
consumer, trade and association publications
throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
With 49 years of in-depth
industry experience, Faer has held various
operational, manufacturing, production, managerial
and executive positions with some of the
industry's leading publishing and printing
organizations. As former publisher and chief
operating officer of The Diamond Magazine,
"The Official Chronicle of Major League
Baseball," Faer developed, implemented and
oversaw the entire publishing operation and
related strategies to effectively launch and
maintain this national consumer publication. Over the
years he has served as Vice President
Manufacturing,
Vice President Operations and Senior Vice
President to LFP, Inc.; as Chief Operating
Officer, Jack Rabbit Systems;
as the Executive Vice
President/COO, Rickert Media; currently serves as Executive Vice President Publishing
Operations, Impact Media Communications;
as Senior Vice President Operations, Small World
Publications
and has held other key industry positions with
organizations such as Rumford National Graphics,
McGraw Hill.
Faer’s diverse publishing background has
permitted him to be intimately involved in
cost-reduction/containment programs; profit
improvement strategies/development; situation
reports and yield enhancement studies; due
diligence and feasibility studies; business plan
development; financial projections/budgets;
custom contract-publishing; publication
start-ups; publishing company turn-around;
supplier out-sourcing/material procurement;
circulation and newsstand distribution
strategies/implementation; strategic marketing
positioning; targeted roll-up’s, international
publishing licensing; mergers and acquisitions.
Faer has negotiated, bought and
controlled on behalf of his clients as a
non-broker, approximately $678 million
worth of manufacturing, paper, distribution and
other associated collaterals. Clients have
realized, through an array of strategically
aligned and implemented procedures, a cost
savings in excess of $102 million over the years.
Faer has been interviewed and
quoted in industry publications and books such as
Publishing Technology; Folio Magazine;
Publishing News; Great Production by
Design; High Volume Magazine;
Interchange Magazine; PaperSpecs Newsletter
and Magazine Design and Production, where
he has also written numerous feature articles as a
contributing writer. He has participated as a
panelist in the IFTF Workshop on "Paper Demands -
The Next Twenty Years," was a member of the WIBC's
Publication Review Committee; has presented
seminars to the National Association of Regional
Publishers; Magazine Publishing Congress; Graphic
Communications Association; Spectrum '99; MDP
Print Production Conferences
and
the keynote
speaker at the AAA/CAA Club Publications 2002
Workshop.
As a certified instructor at
UCLA-Extension, Faer has taught an accredited
course for a number of years: Magazine Publishing Strategies and
has been a guest speaker at Arizona State
University. Faer's
biographical record appears in the 27th Edition of
Marquis Who's Who in the West, and the 55th
Edition of Marquis Who's Who in America, and has
served on the Board of Directors to the Western
Publications Association.
